I am both a huge fan of tactical games and space shooters like R-Type/Gradius/Ikaruga so I was naturally excited about R-Type Command which is coming out next week on the PSP. Originally I was going to wait a bit and buy it used a month or two from now, but this pre-order swag has me drooling and I do believe I am hitting EB Games on my way home:

WOOT! Pre-ordered the Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Edition at Gamestop (one finally opened in Ottawa) and looky what I got:

There is a DVD which tells the history of Metal Gear Solid:
The “Metal Gear Saga Vol. 2” DVD contains extensive original video content, which primarily focuses on the interconnected history of the “Snakes”: Big Boss (Naked Snake), Liquid Snake, Solidus Snake, and of course, Solid Snake. Additionally, the DVD contains a compilation of the MGS4 trailers to date and a special Prologue video to MGS4.

As well as a Beta code for the highly anticipated Metal Gear Online Beta starting on April 17th!!! See you online next week!

Metal Gear Online (MGO), the multiplayer experience that combines the rich Metal Gear Solid universe with online combat, returns exclusively for the PLAYSTATION®3!

MGO carries over the backdrop and control system of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (MGS4) to original online maps and game modes, with future downloadable expansion packs (planned to be released after official service begins) adding additional maps, characters, and other features.

Among the new components this time around are battles featuring up to 16 players, and the SOP System, allowing for enhanced squad communication. Close cooperation is essential to survival on the battlefield!
So I am playing the heck out of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII for the PSP and for the first time in my long history of playing the series I really like the main character! Zack is tough, funny, energetic and a bit of a player (though not successfully) and he is a nice change of pace from the Tidus and Squalls of the series. So I thought back on the series since I started playing it and thought of my favorite characters.

FFVI - Shadow the Ninja, though FFVI didn't have all the cinematics we are now used to Shadow did have a hidden backstory that added to his character and hey..it is a Ninja, plus his attacks were really cool.

FFVII - Cid, oh Cid, you were my favorite just for your run animation...it has to be seen to be believed, but I would get Cid to run around just for fun sometimes. He was also a cool character, the teams pilot and had that cool spear thingy. His class reminded me of the dragoon class.

FFVIII - Irvine was very cool, at first he played like he was this cool assassin type, but when he had to pull the trigger he just couldn't do it. Plus his big ass rifle was one of the coolest looking weapons in the game.

FFIX - No brainer here, Vivi was the true heart and coolness of the game. A perfect blend of Black Wizard and Orko from He-Man Vivi had many dimensions. My all-time favorite CG in the game is when Vivi goes medieval on everyone and busts out the magic on everyones behind.

FFX - Auron by far is one of the coolest characters in the entire series. From the him bottle of whatever that he coats his blad in, to the arm out of the sleeve to the rare times he uses BOTH hands on his sword (and you know the pain is coming) he is just cool. His manner of talk and presence was key to the appeal in the game. Honorable mention goes to Lulu simply for her, ahem, outfit!

FFXII - Balthier again (in a different way from Auron) is an amazingly cool character. From the amazing costume design to the swashbukler, Errol Flynn style demeanor to his guns as weapons in a sword world. Balthier is the worldly sky pirate with the answers and demeanor that makes you want to trust him.

So all the best characters are not the main ones, I wonder is that the plan? make you invested in the cast and not the principal characters? We will see with the next installment, at least she looks REALLY cool and not wearing a half shirt that seems so popular in these hero types...Lightning looks to be a breakout character in the series and be REALLY good.

WOOT! Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is dated for Sept. 16th. I cannot say how stoked I am for this game, part of it is the Star Wars geek in me, part of it is the gaming geek in me. I just hope that it is not a rush job and ends up sucking.

If they take care with the story and make the graphics work for the game and not the other way around I will be happy! For those who don't know the game begins in the period between Episode 3 and 4 and features Darth Vader's secret Apprentice (think what Mara Jade was for the emperor) and their quest to destroy all the Jedi.

DAMN!!! I am so hooked on Crisis Core : Final Fantasy VII that I googled Advent Children Blu-Ray to see if it was coming to that format...and wow is it ever. They are doing a copy called Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete on Blu-Ray and it features extra scenes (check out the impalement of Cloud at the end...awesome) as well as throwing away the PG-13 treatment (there is blood, wounds and dirt!). VERY excited for this, hope we see it soon, considering it is listed as a 2007 release I hope it is not vaporware! Trailer below:

Blizzard is the king as far as April's fools pranks go...from Panda's as a new race, to two headed ogres controlled by two players, this year they topped themselves with their pranks, most notably the WoW Molten Core game announced for the Atari 2600. There is a trailer and concept to in game art...Hilarious!!
