Saw Quantum of Solace last night...let me give you a 10 second review:

It is SHIT, do not see this movie.

Alright...done...Ok, you know I am never done. I was going to write a blogcritics review about the movie, but they have a 200 word minimum and I am way below that...and I have no interest in writing one of my detailed reviews for this movie...point form it is then.
  • Action scenes were horribly, sorry, ABSOLUTELY horribly filmed. You could not make out anything that happened...EVER.
  • Story was incomprehensible. I am a pretty intelligent person, but this story was muddled, vacant, shallow and pointless.
  • The Bond girls where very 1 dimensional, Olga nice with some good moments, Fields...Fing useless.
  • The big bads (the general and Greene) were idiotic and useless.
  • The action sequences where horrible
  • The opening song and title sequence where absolutely horribly annoying.
This movie wasted huge opportunities, it is stylish, beautiful (at times) but the director absolutely ruined it.

I am done.

I didn't mind the movie! It was a typical Bond flick, and I love Craig in the role. I also love his energy with M; Judi Dench never had that kind of snap in her scenes with Brosnan.

However, the filming on the action scenes was complete shit.

My issue is that the movie could have been so much more. Casino Royale brought Bond into a new dimension and the potential was there to blow every Bond movie out of the water.

What do they do instead? A revenge movie that doesn't even show us what he wants revenge for? I was never emotionally attached and the story/action was too muddled to salvage that aspect.

M was truly great in this film...she walks like an old lady though and it takes some of her tough edge away...=-)

Cool Concept Art

In other gaming news I am a sucker for a great concept picture, this one from the upcoming Bethesda Softworks game Wet was just too cool for school:

Well the game is launching soon and it is described as a highly stylized 3rd person action game. Shoot anywhere, anytime gunplay (think Stranglehold) combined with sword fighting and amazing acrobatics. The story is supposed to be zany, serious and gory, plus the main character is ridonculously hot. I like any game that can turn the concept image above into a near perfect in-game model below. There is a demo live on the UK PSN store, gonna try it tonight!

Belated PAX East 2017 Coverage Roundup - Part 3

More PAX East coverage - there are always tons of things to see and do at a PAX show and the highlight of this days coverage was an ultraviolent game called Ruiner.  It is out later this month and I can't wait to try it again!
Enjoy the continuing coverage I put out while attending the show for
PAX East Boardgame Review Final War
One of the best things about PAX is the fact that tabletop experiences are as prominent as the videogames; this year at PAX East I had a chance to try out a Tactical Card Game called Final War.  This is from a passionate group in Australia called Games Lab and it is a complex experience that blends Magic the Gathering with Dungeons and Dragons to deliver a tabletop experience that was incredibly deep but also very fun to play.
Final War is a dense game, with a large game board reserved for each player’s forces; the game can be enjoyed by 2-3 people in the current iteration; an expansion later in the year will enable a fourth player. In the ga…

Whiskey of the Year?

Late in 2015 a relatively inexpensive, frankly cheap, whisky from Canada called Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye won a very prestigious award - Worldwide Whiskey of the Year beating out out champions from Scotland, Japan and the US.  In the words of the reviewer Jim Murray:

“Crown Royal Northern Harvest pops up out of nowhere and changes the game,” said Murray of the whisky, which he awarded a record-tying 97.5 out of 100 points. “It certainly puts the rye into Canadian Rye. To say this is a masterpiece is barely doing it justice.”

Naturally as a developing Whiskey connoisseur I wanted to try this $40 bottle of Rye Whiskey myself, but an announcement like that broke the walls of the drinking world and the Northern Harvest Rye has been selling out for nearly 6 months with further accolades coming in the meantime:

In addition to being named 2016 World Whisky of the Year, Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye received a double gold medal at this year’s San Francisco World Spirits Competition.…
