Whiskey of the Year?

Late in 2015 a relatively inexpensive, frankly cheap, whisky from Canada called Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye won a very prestigious award - Worldwide Whiskey of the Year beating out out champions from Scotland, Japan and the US. In the words of the reviewer Jim Murray: “Crown Royal Northern Harvest pops up out of nowhere and changes the game,” said Murray of the whisky, which he awarded a record-tying 97.5 out of 100 points. “It certainly puts the rye into Canadian Rye. Videogame Review: Drone Swarm

Sometimes a game has such a cool premise that it turns heads with its hook alone. Drone Swarm by Stillalive studios GmbH is one of those games. The look and feel of this space based action/strategy game is striking even if the story itself does not meet the same high standards. Set in 2118, Drone Swarm has a Homeworld vibe focusing on a shattered remnant of humanity trying to find a new Earth. This game centers around a swarm of 32,000 individual drones inhabited by the minds of some of Earth’s survivors. These are all controlled by a latent psychic human called Captain Carter, the commander of the Argo, mankind’s only FTL ship. This premise is a lot to take in but it does introduce the gameplay mechanic of remotely controlled drones and the result is crazy, challenging and fun. Videogame Review: Hades

Developer Supergiant Games has a terrific pedigree starting with it’s groundbreaking debut title Bastion . They then released the stellar Transistor , the odd but interesting Pyre and now, with their best game yet, Hades . Hades started as an early access title on the newly launched epic game store in December 2018. The initial game was extremely enjoyable but was obviously incomplete and still a work in progress. Many updates followed adding features, weapons, new Gods as well as a Steam release in 2019. Eventually Supergiant was able to add all of their desired features and released the version 1.0 of Hades across both the Steam and Epic platforms. This is a rogue-like style of game so it was perfectly designed to fit the Early Access mold as replaying the game over and over is part of the core design.
